           Contra-Mestre Papa-Leguas

“Papa-Leguas” started Capoeira in 1995 in
“Patos de Minas” Brazil, where he was training under the monitoring of Professor Chicote. The first group he joined was Grupo Afro, but after two years his former teacher split from this group and they moved under the group:
Raizes Cordão De Ouro  Mestre Ze Paulo - Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.

Formed as Instructor, and already teaching together with his former teacher, he decided in 2000 to move to London. With the help of Professora's Rilene and Rejane from the Group Amazonas Capoeira, he started to give his first classes in the UK.

He then moved to Burton-on-Trent for 6 months where he taught Capoeira at the local college in the performing arts course. In 2001 he moved again, this time to Nottingham where he established his group, Cordão De Ouro Nottingham. His work started to grow and he created the first
Cordão De Ouro Academy in the UK.

CORDÃO DE OURO
Pronounced: - core, down, gee, oar, rue

Meaning BELT OF GOLD, was set up by
Reinaldo Ramos Suassuna: -“Mestre Suassuna” in 1967.
He moved from his home in Bahia to teach Capoeira in São Paulo. His aim was to teach a universal Capoeira which everyone could enjoy.

He trained with both Mestre Bimba and Mestre Pastinha alongside many other famous masters. One of which, Mestre Canjiquinha, who believed very strongly against the idea of two styles of Capoeira; he believed all Capoeira’s are the same. Mestre Suassuna also holds similar beliefs.

His group is now globally renowned, with teachers and Mestres teaching worldwide, each with their own style of Capoeira varying according to the period that they trained with Mestre Suassuna.
